PERSONAL STORY
Carl finds an Alternative to Pain Medication
My name is "Carl." I'm 24 and HAE was diagnosed when I was in my teens. I had severe, painful swelling attacks, and I couldn't tolerate danazol or other androgens.
I had to rely on strong pain medicines to control my pain. Even then, I couldn't study or work. After I began participating in an HAE clinical research trial, I received regular HAE treatment. Gradually, I was able to reduce the amount of pain medication I needed. Today, I'm off of narcotics altogether.
